Newsletter October 2011

October 10th, 2011 by Denise Guthrie

A very warm welcome to our continuing new starts! We are delighted with how quickly so many of you are settling.

We would also like to thank all the parents who were able to make our welcome evenings in each room. Just to recap, we spoke about the new Pre-Birth to Three documentation and the Montessori Method in the Raindrops.

We spoke about the Curriculum for Excellence and the Montessori Method in the Rainbows. You will see all this evidence unfold in your children’s folders over the coming months and if you want to research further we would actively encourage your eyes to explore the following web sites:

Each room have just completed their first plans and over the next two weeks will embark on the following adventures.

In the Raindrops ‘Topsy and Tim go on a Train’ will start the children on a mission to find out about different modes of transport?

The staff asked that you contribute with: Week one 10th of October. Bring in your junk? Save your lids and boxes so we can create interesting modes of transport. Week two 17th of October could you help us create a nature table with for example seasonal vegetables, leaves, berries and cones. Week three 24th of October lets take a walk in Kelvingrove maybe one in the afternoon and one in the morning.

The ladies have also mentioned that they would like you take the children’s folders at the end of this plan and give written feedback. From here we can then prepare the December reports and have you in for individual progress reports from January 2012.

The Healthy Lunch Boxes Begins Now

Please lookout for the Oral Health Action Team information booklet on Healthy Snacks for Children which has lots good ideas and really useful websites. Our children will enjoy recording their healthy lunches on their checklist.

In the Rainbows the children are going to investigate the human body. Do you have any skeletons in your closet, any X-Rays or any interesting stories? Please come and share with our experiences and outcomes.

Our room also has begun our ‘Lending Library’. Children can read with you at home and rate their book with stars.

The room would also like your junk, cardboard and plastic and we can continue recording in our recycling books.

We are grateful to so many of you who are giving up your time to contribute to the classroom, we still need you to come and observe us so don’t be shy!
